Display - JSC, Imax Tying-up to Produce LCD panels
December 02, 2004
JSC (Japan Subcontract), Japanese designer and seller of LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panels, has plans to improve panel production capabilities and operations by establishing ties with Taiwanese LCD panel maker Imax Optronics.

Imax has given JSC stock options and will be changing its name to reflect this new partnership. The alliance will help JSC, who has been occupied with panel design in the past and works with outsourcing partners in and outside of Japan, to step further into the panel manufacturing segment. In return, JSC will give Imax a hand to lift its capacity operation rate from the current 60% to 90%.

Imax presently produces low-resolution STN (SuperTwist Nematic) LCD panels used in mobile handsets in Kaohsiung Taiwan. However, it plans on kicking off a new plant dedicated to high-resolution TFT (Thin-Film Transistor) LCD panel production in the summer of 2005. Output from this China-based site, located in Dongguan, will go to a Taiwanese portable DVD maker. Engineers from JSC will be stationed at the plant to provide technical support.
